Review on Presentation
The presentation covering Chapter 9,10,11, and 12 from The Evolution of Public Speaking
was honestly more helpful than I expected. Instead of just repeating the text book, they had
a good way of actually explaining the main ideas and it made sense. The overall flow of the
presentation made it easy to understand and follow. It never felt overwhelming or boring.
Chapter 9, which mostly focused on audience analysis, was explained very well. The
presenter did a good job of showing why the audience actually matters and isn't something
that you do just in a formal setting. The examples that were given like age, culture,
background, etc.. can change the way you should deliver a speech. It made me realize that
audience analysis isn't just something you rush through, but something that can really affect
whether the message lands or not.
Chapter 10, about organizing speeches, was one of the strongest parts of the presentation.
The way they broke down different organizational patterns made everything feel a lot
clearer. Instead of me being bored and confused, it felt normal, like something you could
actually apply and important to apply to your own speeches. I liked how they connected this
chapter.
When the presentation moved into Chapter 11 about research and supporting, it
was surprisingly interesting. Research usually feels boring, but they explained it in a
straight forward way that didn't feel like a lot. They made it very clear about how important
using a credible source and explained strong evidence really matters when trying to inform
an audience. This part definitely helped me feel more confident about past speeches since
this is something I've always tried to incorporate.
Chapter 12, which focuses on outlining and drafting speeches, tied everything together.
They explained how all the previous steps come together when it comes to writing the
speech. The discussion about clear main points, transitions, and strong conclusions was
especially helpful. It made the whole speech-writing process feel easy, instead of stressful.
Overall, the presentation was very interesting, easy to understand, and well organized. The
presentation kept things very casual and short but still to the point. It made it a lot easier to
stay focused and engaged. I feel like I had a better understanding of the chapters because of
the presentation.
