Up and Down of a Project
In my past experience, I have done similar projects where I teach my class. I taught my class how to make portfolios in one class and in another I taught them what nature vs nurture is. Now with this project I taught my class what to look for in their audience, how to research their audience, and how to use that information in a speech. However, despite the previous experience I have had with presentations where I taught my classes. This would have been my first presentation in a couple of years. So, it felt like I was relearning how to do a presentation all over again. This past presentation was interesting and to do a presentation that teaches the class was challenging.
Major Challenges
While this was a nice project to do, there were many challenges that came along with making this project. One of those challenges was communication. Given that we are online, it's harder to communicate with my classmates in order to do the project, with the time of waiting for responses and making sure information is going to the right person, it just wasn't always the best. There were a few instances that were lacking in communication. One of those instances was trying to figure out what part of the chapters each person was doing and it was even worse if you were working together with someone as I was. However, with all the issues of communication we still managed to complete the project in time, and it turned out pretty good. Along with communication there was also the issue we had with time management. With this project, we didn't have a lot of time and with the fact that we had to read the chapters beforehand to even start writing. It just shortened our time even more. A lot of us, including myself, weren't really sure how we should use the chapters to create a presentation. With these problems it made it complicated to start the presentation.
Getting the swing of things
Once all the issues were figured out, I could finally start confidently creating my presentation. I thought that it was best to use the different sections in the chapter as my guide to each slide. Once I decided on that, I then decided that it would be best going forward to bullet the main point of each section and using that to show on my slides. Now that I figured out what each of my slides were going to be, I decided it was best to summarize my chapter sections. Using my summarized sections to create something similar to an essay. Which I then sent to my phone and used it to help me present my presentation.
The Rush Of Anxiety
With the making of the project out of the way, we now have to present it. I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous. In fact, every one of us was nervous about presenting the project. I remember before presenting the project we were all in the group chat going on about how we were freaking out. When it came time to finally present, I was dead last, so while the rest of my group was presenting, I was able to continue going over my notes. But despite going over my notes over and over again, I still fumbled. At the moment I couldn't decide whether I should stick to reading my notes to present or to paraphrase to the best of my abilities and memories. With all the added-up pressure, I ended up skipping a few of my paragraphs and sections for my presentation. I felt like I was going to clam up and freeze. So at certain times during my presentation I would do this nervous laugh to control myself and not freak out. In the end I was able to get through my presentation without completely blowing it.
My Turn To Watch
After my group presentation it was time to watch the other groups present. I have to say this was quite different compared to my other presentations I've ever done. As with most presentations you don't take the whole class to do it. But this method creates a security on knowing when and how much time you have to present. Aside from the logical side, it was nice seeing the other groups present, how they presented and their slides design. (Oh, I love the other people's slides.) To be able to see how creative other groups were and even being able to learn from them too was also great. One of the things I couldn't help but do for almost every group was seeing the similarities between their presentations and my group's presentation. I noticed that I kept going and being like Oh my God, hey my group also talked about that. I enjoyed each and every single one of the group's presentations and they did an amazing job. Along with the joy that I got from the other group's presentations, I also was able to learn from the other group's presentations. Given the fact that we had such a short time frame. I never did end up reading the other chapters and modules from the book, so everything that they talked about was fairly new to me. So I made sure to focus as much as I could.
Once Its Over
When I finally finished the entirety of the project, there was a mix of emotions I felt. Relief, happiness, panic, and even more emotions that I cannot put my finger on. But once all those emotions settled, I felt content. I felt somewhat content with my presentation. I knew where I messed up, and I accepted where I messed up on, plus I also got an A so that felt pretty good. In the end, I think the presentation was quite fun to do. It was interesting to do despite all the roads and bumps that we encountered. I can say I'm glad to have had the opportunity to do this project, and I'm also very glad that we successfully pulled the project off.
